Questions

What is a TXF file?+

TXF (Tax Exchange Format) is the import format TurboTax desktop uses for investment transactions. Instead of typing every sale into Schedule D / Form 8949 by hand, you import one .txf file and every trade appears with dates, proceeds, and cost basis.

Does this work with TurboTax Online?+

TXF import is a TurboTax desktop (CD/download) feature. If you use TurboTax Online, download our Form 8949 CSV instead — you can enter summary totals and attach the detail, or switch to desktop to import the TXF directly.

Which brokers are supported?+

Any broker. We read the file itself — CSV exports, Excel-style exports saved as CSV, or PDF statements — so it works for foreign and smaller brokers that have no native TurboTax connection.

What does the free tier include?+

One conversion per day with a clean CSV of every extracted transaction, no signup needed. Registering (free) raises that to three per day. Pro unlocks the TXF and Form 8949 exports, Excel output, and batch conversion.

How is holding period handled?+

Brokerage files often omit per-lot acquisition dates. We default records to short-term and flag them for review, so you can confirm the term in TurboTax before filing — nothing is silently guessed.

Is my data safe?+

Files are processed in memory and deleted immediately after conversion. Signed-in users' extracted rows are kept for 24 hours so you can re-download them, then permanently deleted.
